Creating larger YouTube thumbnails for facebook
It is so frustrating when you post your YouTube video on facebook and they just don’t appear the way you want. I have done so much of research on this and have wasted days and hours in figuring out the root cause of it.
Anyways no wants to know WTF I have done, so lets just get started.
This is what you want
This is what you get
The worst bit is when someone wants to view this post on a mobile device. The big play button covers the entire thumbnail and your original content stays hidden under it. Most of the time people just ignore such posts and just scroll up/down to the next more appealing content.
So how do I fix this
Step 1. Paste your YouTube URL on http://www.scorphq.com/YouTube/Generator/
Note: a YouTube URL looks like this:
1. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0RtNYCPGSzM&list=PLqyw60j6c9Ot5NimHn49j31yWxqycjW_m
2. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N2b6egB5v-Q
3. http://youtu.be/0RtNYCPGSzM
Step 2. Download the information
Note: Once you hit this button this page will download all the information required to generate a bigger thumbnail from YouTube. This may take a while based on the Internet connectivity. So, please be patient. Once all the information is downloaded the section below will display how your post will look like.
Step 3. Save the information and generate a URL
Note: Click on this button only after you have generated the preview. Once clicked a URL will be generated which you can use in Facebook to post your video. Please save the URL as you can use the same URL over and over again. This is just an one time process for a video.
Step 4. Make facebook understand your page
Once you have gone through all the 3 steps, you now will have to tell Facebook to fetch the information you just generated and not the default one. So, click on this link to open Facebook Debugger.
Note: You just need to copy the URL generated by this website in the debugger textbox and hit the Debug button. Facebook will then do some calculations and will save the information you generated in its cache. Remember this is just an one time process and you can then use the URL generated whenever and wherever you want.
You may have to press the “Fetch new scrape information” before you get the proper result.
